Trig interviews Chip Lamb – Team Leader of the Trojan Phlyers Flight Demonstration Team, at Air Venture 2023.
Chip explains just how vital the T-28 Trojan became in training the nation’s first generation of jet age pilots. The Trojan Phlyers operate using modern Mode S, VHF Com and GPS technology from Trig Avionics. The teams final display this season, will be at the Las Cruces Air and Space Expo this month.
The commitment shown in operating two T-28 Trojans, involves the hard work of a dedicated band of volunteers. Chip shared, “2023 has been one of our busiest seasons for some time, we’ve flown at ten display venues including EAA Air Venture. We were very happy with our performances and visitors seem to agree, our Facebook page engaged several thousand of new followers after our July appearances!”
Chip’s assessment of the general performance and handling of the T-28 is fascinating. He shares the secrets of what made the Trojan such a great training aircraft in the video. Chip and his wingman Robert Johnson, harness the power of the Trojan’s 1425 hp Wright Cyclone R1820-86B radial engine. Flying only feet apart they fully exploit this ex-military workhorse in their display. Trig filmed the interview with Chip at Air Venture, which can viewed here insert link
Flights across the US rely on Trig Mode S and ADS-B technology, and vital radio communication uses Trig’s TY91 compact radios and TY97 high power stack radios. Chip is happy to recommend Trig to GA pilots, (Suitable QUOTE) he attests to many trouble free hours of operational use, in high G environments.
Chip and Robert agree that the satisfaction after completing a well-executed and tight display is their favourite display moment. “Landing after a good flight and following two great performances in front of the crowds at Air Venture, we toasted this achievement with beer and pizza, in the company of our friends from Trig.”
The Trojan Phlyer’s growing profile is securing the attention of air show organizers. Trig are excited to support the team, and look forward to more air show opportunities in 2024 where people can experience the blend of Smoke, Thunder and Excitement that the Trojan Phlyers deliver.
